UNIVERSITY OF UTAH MATH CIRCLE

We are happy to announce that the Math Circle will run in school year 2023-2024!

In the late 90's, a small network of extracurricular programs called Math Circles gradually began to spring up in various places around the country. These programs, based partly on a model developed in Eastern Europe, focused on the process of discovery and open-ended exploration, and were designed to introduce students to the deeper kinds of mathematical thinking that are invariably absent in most standard curricula. The University of Utah Math Circle, now in its fifteenth year, is one of the best established Math Circles in the country.

In addition to encountering exciting material far beyond that treated in a regular classroom, students joining The Math Circle have the unique opportunity to interact with professional mathematicians in an informal setting. Thanks to the generous support of the National Science Foundation and the Department of Mathematics, there is no cost to participate in the Math Circle.

The math circle is taking a hiatus in Spring 2024.We are hoping to schedule special promotional events this spring, so stay tuned! We hope to see you for regular meetings again in

Fall 2024!

PAST MEETINGS

The Utah Math Circle is made possible, in part, by support from:

Math Circle is a free program for all participants. The support of individual donors is vital to continuing this program. Donated funds will go towards supplies, books, and refreshments for participants.

Your donation also shows federal agencies and private foundations the support Math Circle has in the greater Salt Lake community. Your gesture can have a big impact on Math Circle's ability to secure funding from these organizations.

Donations can be made in any amount. Donors will receive a receipt for tax purposes from the University of Utah's Development Office.

If you would like to contribute to helping us run the Math Circle in the future, please email us at [email protected] and we will send you the link to donate.  Thank you!

The best place to learn about the Math Circle community is at the website of the National Association of Math Circles. By registering for an account on the NAMC website, you will have access to a wide variety of interesting problems and other resources.
